AMR Back Haul
Most distribution feeder automation implementations to date have concentrated upon the two ends of the feeders, the sub-stations and the meters, called AMR. Through the use of Natis products, highly cost-effective and securely encrypted communications can be put in place to provide for the AMR Back Haul of meter data.
Current and next-generation meters for electricity, gas, and water are increasingly more intelligent. and as a result, communications between the meters in the field and the data collection application is critical. We recognize the provision of effective, low-cost communications with meters can be challenging due to a number of factors such as: geographic distances between the meters and the expense of drive-by solutions.
Natis Solution
Natis offers the Secure Distribution Automation Platform (SDAP) to manage both the two-way communications and data collection by allowing the integration of multiple communications networks into a single solution with the option of adding secure data encryption from end to end. The SDAP allows utilities to mix and match networks of all types — fiber, cellular, copper, radio, satellite—without the need to use a different type equipment for each. The SDAP can also be used to simultaneously carry the communications traffic destined for other automated devices along the same feeders.
With Natis, utilities can focus more upon using their meter data and less upon managing communications.
